My name is Anna Aslanian and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the states of California, Florida and New York.
I am the founder and director of My Therapy Corner, a boutique private practice that focuses on individual and couples healing through a trauma-informed lens.
I’ve been working in the field of psychological care since 2006. My work experience includes working at many clinics, centers and programs. I’ve worked with a variety of clients of different ages and backgrounds- those struggling with severe psychiatric mental illnesses, substance and process addictions, anxiety disorders, couples dealing with a wide range of relational problems, etc.
My belief is that therapy should be supportive and trauma-informed. Additionally, it should be culturally sensitive and consider all the layers of one’s identity, including gender, race and sexuality.
I am aware of the complex impact of trauma (any perceived trauma, no matter how big or small. Anything that’s been hurtful to your heart can be traumatic and leave an impact) on an individual and a relationship. My approach integrates this knowledge into every aspect of your treatment. While I give clients coping skills using a variety of therapeutic modalities, the goal is always to get to the core of the problem.
I am an EMDR Certified psychotherapist and a Certified Attachment-Focused EMDR therapist. Additionally, I am a consultant in training. My additional trainings including Acceptance Commitment Therapy and Polyvagal Framework for nervous system regulation. While these are the modalities I highly recommend and love practicing, I often utilize other modalities such as DBT, IFS, CBT, etc.
EMDR is a research-based psychotherapy modality that focuses on healing a variety of symptoms and diagnoses that are the result of negative life experiences. The research behind this method is astonishing, it works beautifully. And that’s what clients want. Psychotherapy takes effort and time, but it should not be endless. Clients want to see results and feel better. EMDR gives them that. I provide consultation to professionals who want to improve their EMDR skills. Using the lens of Polyvagal Theory I help clients understand and process the impact of trauma and move through states of protection and connection in their nervous system to establish embodied sense of safety. Additionally, I am a clinical supervisor for therapists who are working towards getting licensed in the state of California.
People heal and grow in connection to others. So relationship work and couples therapy is something I am very passionate about.
I am a Certified Gottman Method Couples Therapist, another research-based therapy method specifically for couples. My sessions are collaborative and focused. I give feedback and guide couples. I am not there just as a “witness” to your ongoing conflict and problems. Couples come to see me for pre-marital counseling, healing from betrayal and infidelity, developing better communication skills, parenting, etc. I am trained and have extensive experience working with couples where one or both partners are in recovery from addictions and couples who are healing after infidelity and betrayal trauma (including partners of sex addicts). I am also a Gottman Method Bringing Baby Home Educator for couples who are expecting or recently became parents. I often conduct research-based workshops assisting couples in becoming the best parenting team. I’m a regular contributor to Gottman Relationship Blog and have appeared as a relationship and trauma expert in media outlets such as Bustle, katiecouric.com, The Knot, The Skimm, Parade, NBC LX News, and more.
My private practice group, My Therapy Corner, focuses on individual and couples therapy online.
